Marcie Roberts joined the law school in October, 1992 where she has been the program coordinator for the summer abroad programs. She also assists foreign visitors get settled and adjust when they arrive here for classes.
Marcie says, “I have been greatly blessed in helping our foreign visitors take away pleasant memories of their stay at SCU. If we can make a positive difference in just one life I consider that an accomplishment. Hopefully, I have done that.”
She is hoping to be able to sleep in until 7am, spend more time with her family, and doing volunteer work.
In parting, she says, “I want to thank all my friends at SCU – the support network here is amazing. I thank God that he led me to this position almost 12 years ago. I will miss you all but will never forget you. Life is good and I appreciate each day!”
Mary Miller came to Santa Clara University sixteen years ago to work in the Development Office as an Assistant to Vice President Gene Gerwe. After 18 months, she was hired at the law school by Professor Jerry Uelmen to work with Barbara Maloney, the Director of Law Alumni and Development. In 1995, Dean Mack Player created her current position in the Special Projects Office.
Mary’s job has involved planning, organizing and implementing special events and programs. These events and programs are presented to enrich the educational experience for students, and provide opportunities for alumni and faculty participation.
Prior to her arrival, there was no procedure in place to capture lessons learned to implement continuous improvement of events and programs. Now the evaluation process she’s implemented has resulted in incremental improvements in law school functions.
And she appreciates everyone’s involvement. “I couldn’t have done it alone, and want to thank everyone who has given me support in whatever capacity was needed to get the job done.”
Mary says, “I find myself in the fortunate position of being able to retire and pursue other opportunities and adventures with my husband, Robert. We have a very long list of ideas on how we will spend our time, but one of the most exciting is living in Paris for a year through a home exchange program. We are just beginning the process of collecting information and gathering all the details and will focus on this as our first retirement project. After Paris, future plans include a leisure trip across the United States to see all the sights. In addition, we plan to do some volunteer community service, enroll in some fun classes such as dance lessons, and we’d like to run a few more marathons.”
