Financial Aid

A Santa Clara University School of Law education is an investment in your future. And understanding the costs associated with a legal education and learning about financing options is critical.

At Santa Clara Law, we recognize that many students do not always have immediate access to resources to pay for their law school education. Financial aid, in the form of scholarships, federal and private loans—or some combination thereof—may be an integral component of your funding strategy.

We invite you to review the information on costs, how to apply, the different types of financial aid programs and repayment.

The Summer Survey will open on March 14, 2022. Students wishing to use financial aid for the summer term must submit a Summer Survey and indicate their enrollment plans for the term. (Note: To be eligible for aid in the summer you must be enrolled in a MINIMUM of 3 units.) Summer 2022 uses the 2021-2022 FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) and is considered part of the 2021-2022 academic year. Once we receive your Summer Survey we will revise your cost of attendance to include Summer term. Federal financial aid options may be limited to the Federal Direct PLUS Loan.

If you are receiving the Dean’s Fellowship or IP Fellow award you can use your eligibility for Summer term, but please keep in mind that it will count against your 86 units of eligibility. Please submit a Summer Survey and indicate that you are a recipient of the Dean’s or IP Fellowship in your response. Emery & Law Faculty Scholarship funds are not available during Summer term.

Revisions to your financial aid will be completed by May 1, 2021. Once we have adjusted your Cost of Attendance we will send you notification at which time you can apply for a Summer Federal Direct PLUS Loan. Upon receiving confirmation from U.S. Department of Education that your Federal Direct PLUS Loan is approved, we will certify and accept your loan on your behalf.

DISBURSEMENT

Summer disbursement is scheduled for May 26, 2022 with refunds issued after the add/drop period for Summer 2022 in accordance with the University’s credit balance refund policy.
