Students from Santa Clara University School of Law have been teaching Latino College Preparatory Academy students material that focuses on law, peace and conflict resolution and restorative justice practices. The course covers basic conflict resolution ideas and skills, from “active listening” to negotiation, mediation, restorative justice and mock trial scenarios. The course was created to give law students a chance to practice their skills in Peace and Conflict Resolution by teaching the subject to high school students. The law students helped to create the curriculum for the course. Professors from Santa Clara Law gave their students the topics and a sample framework, but the law students had to structure the material to be more interesting and useful for the high school students. The course materials that the law students created to engage high school students consisted of handouts, a film reflecting students’ responses and games.
