The Honorable Linda Kay Davis, of the Superior Court of the District of Columbia, will serve as Keynote Speaker for the Celebration and Graduation Ceremony honoring public interest and social justice accomplishments on May 15 at 4 p.m. in the Benson Memorial Center (Williman Room).
The ceremony will recognize 27 graduating Public Interest and Social Justice Law Scholars, 18 Public Interest and Social Justice Endowment Summer Fellowship Honorees, a LGBT Legal Issues Summer Fellowship Honoree, the Pro Bono Recognition Awardees, as well as 6 Justice John Paul Stevens Public Interest Fellowship Honorees.
Abdul Al Hamamsy will receive the Herman Wildman Social Justice Law Writing Award for his essay Avian Influenza Pandemic: A Comprehensive Preparedness Plan for a National Security Threat.
Professor Gerald Uelmen will receive the Public Interest and Social Justice Recognition Award and Professor Beth Van Schaack will receive the Public Interest and Social Justice Achievement Award. The ceremony will also recognize service by Nicole Clemens, a 2006-07 and 2007-08 Public Interest Law Careers Services Student Coordinator. Dean Donald J. Polden will open the ceremony. Following Dean Polden’s comments, Nicole Clemens and Liza-Jane Capatos, both of the Class of 2008, will deliver the student address.
