Many friends and family assembled to congratulate Professor Berg on his many years of teaching, community and professional service, and leadership in the School’s international and public interest programs. Professors Ken Manaster and George Alexander spoke of Berg’s many contributions to the school and a former student, Ruth (Edman) Hauswirth spoke of his classroom teaching and student mentoring. Professor Berg was joined at the evening event by his wife, Madé, son, Adam and daughter, Ana, his brother, Chuck and sister-in-law, Patricia and his parents, Aaron and Mildred, from Bloomfield Hills, Michigan.
Richard P. Berg was a Professor Law at Santa Clara University School of Law for 31 years. He earned his B.A. in Economics from the University of Michigan in 1965 and his J.D. from the University of Michigan School of Law in 1968. He graduated Magna Cum Laude from law school, was inducted into the Order of the Coif and served on the Editorial Board of the MichiganLaw Review.
Prior to coming to Santa Clara University School of Law, Professor Berg was an Associate in Law at the University of California School of Law (Boalt Hall), a Reginald Heber Smith Fellow in Poverty Law, and Staff Counsel and Economic Development Specialist, National Housing and Economic Development Law Center in Berkeley, California.
He has been the director of the Singapore-Bangkok summer law program since 1984 and is active in dispute resolution organizations such as the American Arbitration Association and Asia Pacific Organization for Mediation. He is involved in the public interest arena and is on the board of directors of several public interest organizations; and is active in international issues, particularly in the Asia-Pacific region.
