Margaret Russell spoke with KQED about the draft Supreme Court opinion that would overturn Roe v. Wade.

“It’s been an extremely difficult couple of days. I’ve spoken with a lot of students, male and female, but particularly the female students who have grown up with an understanding of their rights under Roe and are afraid, they’re demoralized, they are trying very hard not to be cynical about what appears to be a very politicized decision of the court.”

“This is a draft opinion. I don’t think any outside pressure will make any difference…I don’t expect the result to be any different. What did surprise me about the draft, which may be negotiated and tempered a little bit is what I really see as callousness and breadth and scope to the decision that will affect other rights that we’ve understood as being liberty interests.”
