A special lecture by Kyong-Whan Ahn, "Obscuring the Causes of Human Rights: South Korea in an ‘Economy-First’ World,” is being held on Wednesday, February 18th in Bannan Hall, room 142. Lunch is provided.
Kyong-Whan Ahn is the chairperson of the National Human Rights Commission and is appointed by the President of the Republic of Korea.
We are honored to have Chairman Ahn as our guest at Santa Clara. He holds a JD from our law school, an LLM from the University of Pennsylvania, and an LLB from Seoul National University. Since 2006, he has been Deputy Chair of the International Coordinating Committee of National Human Rights Institutions, a worldwide association of national human rights institutions. Chairman Ahn has taught at Seoul National University since 1987 and was College Dean in 2002-2004. He has taught and given lectures widely in the US and abroad, and is a prolific legal scholar in both Korean and English. He was a founding chairman of one of the leading NGOs in Korea, and is actively engaged as a world leader in human rights.
