Santa Clara Law Review To Hold Annual Symposium On The Legal Implications of Autonomous Vehicles

SANTA CLARA, Calif. Santa Clara Law Review will hold its annual symposium on January 20, 2012 in the Locatelli Center at Santa Clara University regarding “The Legal Implications of Autonomous Vehicles”. The event starts at 9:00 a.m. and attendees must register at: lawreview.scu.edu/page.cfm/events.

The symposium addresses the legal implications related to the recent developments of autonomous vehicles. Particularly, the symposium focuses on the criminal and civil liabilities that could stem from the use of autonomous vehicles and the effect the vehicles may have on wireless communications in automated systems.

Industry professionals, policymakers, attorneys, and academics from various areas of law will share their insights on these cutting edge issues. Featured speakers include Dr. Sven A. Beiker and Bryant Walker Smith of Stanford CARS (Center for Automotive Research), Frank Douma of Hubert Humphrey School of Public Affairs at the University of Minnesota, Dorothy J. Glancy and Robert Peterson of Santa Clara Law, Robert B. Kelly and Mark D. Johnson of Squire Sanders and Dempsey, Washington, Steve Wood, Assistant Chief Counsel for Vehicle Rulemaking and Harmonization, and D.C., Gary E. Merchant of Arizona State University Law School. Keynote speaker is O. Kevin Vincent, Chief Counsel of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration for the U.S. Department of Transportation.
