SANTA CLARA, Calif. – October 7, 2005– The Santa Clara Computer & High Technology Law Journal ("the Journal") today announced the addition of Congresswoman Zoe Lofgren and Gregg Alton to its board of advisors. The Journal’s Editor-in-Chief, Elizabeth Morris, said "We are very excited to have Gregg and Zoe join the board. Their participation both endorses and reinforces the notion that the Journal truly is a leader in its field, and we hope to work with them to strengthen and expand that leadership position."
Congresswoman Lofgren represents California’s 16th Congressional District, which sits in the heart of the Silicon Valley. Given her constituency, Zoe works at the nexus of law, technology and public policy. Most recently, she sponsored H.R. 2408 (The Public Domain Enhancement Act), H.R. 1066 (Benefit Authors without Limiting Advancement or Net Consumer Expectations (BALANCE) Act of 2003), and H.R. 2231 (Patent Reexamination Enhancement Act of 2001). Zoe’s unique insight will help steer the Journal’s content and symposia to topics that are at the forefront of intellectual debate and public interest. The Congresswoman stated, "As an alumna of Santa Clara Law, it is an honor to be on the board of the Journal. I want to ensure that the Journal will continue to lead the discussion about technology and intellectual property issues, and find new ways for policy makers and industry leaders to nurture innovation and balance the interests of entrepreneurs and consumers."
Gregg Alton is Senior Vice President and General Counsel of Gilead Sciences, Inc. and he succeeds to the seat formerly held by Steve Juelsgaard, General Counsel of Genentech, Inc. In his current role, Gregg is responsible for legal affairs as well as Gilead’s government affairs activities. Prior to joining Gilead, Gregg was an associate in the Palo Alto office of Cooley Godward, LLP where he represented numerous healthcare, information technology and biotechnology companies. Gregg’s position as General Counsel will provide the Journal with insight into the practical issues that a company with a large IP portfolio faces on a daily basis and will help the journal to focus on practical content that such companies need, including governmental affairs, the regulatory landscape, international and other related issues. On joining the board, Gregg stated "I am pleased to join the board of advisors for the Santa Clara Computer
& High Technology Law Journal. As the complexity and intersection of technology law and public policy continues to grow, the Journal is well poised to build upon its leadership position as a forum for communicating to its constituents about these changes and emerging topics within the legal practice. Zoe and Gregg join ten other advisors comprised of leading minds in their fields.
