The Third Annual Judge William A. Ingram Memorial Symposium is being held Tuesday, October 25, 2005 from 6:30 p.m.–8:00 p.m. in the Recital Hall in the Music and Dance Building at Santa Clara University. The symposium is being presented by the William A. Ingram Inn of the American Inns of Court. The panel discussion, “Civility in the Process of Choosing Judges” features the following panelists:
Honorable Carlos T. Bea, Circuit Judge, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit
Honorable Joseph Grodin, John F. Digardi Distinguished Professor of Law, Hastings College of the Law
Honorable Carolyn B. Kuhl, Judge, Superior Court, County of Los Angeles
Judge Carlos T. Bea earned his B.A. from Stanford University and his J.D. from Stanford Law School. He joined Dunne, Phelps & Mills in 1959 as an Associate and became a partner in 1967. From 1975 – 1990 he practiced law as a sole proprietor and in 1990 he was named to the San Francisco Superior. He joined the Ninth Circuit Court.of Appeals in September, 2003.
Judge Carolyn Kuhl is a Superior Court Judge in Los Angeles County who was nominated by President George W. Bush for appointment to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. She withdrew her nomination after a contentious lobbying campaign was launched against her.
Professor Joseph Grodin returned to the faculty of Hastings College of the Law after he was removed from the California Supreme Court by voters in the controversial retention election of 1986.
Santa Clara University School of Law Professor Gerald F. Uelmen will be the moderator.
