In memory of Professor Herman M. LevyThe Bannan Student Lounge is now officially the Professor Herman Levy Lounge.   Professor Levy, known as a "champion of the students"  passed away last spring after 33 years of teaching at SCU. The lounge was named in his memory at the kick-off event of Student Appreciation Week, 12:30 p.m. Monday, March 7th.  A gathering of his former students, faculty, and staff shared their memories of Professor Levy and viewed displays commemorating his life.  Senior Assistant Dean for Student Services, Julia Yaffee  planned the event with the assistance of the student services staff.  Yaffee commented, "Naming the student lounge in memory of Professor Levy is a fitting tribute to a faculty member who worked tirelessly advocating for students."

Herman LevyProfessor Levy was a passionate advocate of the interests and concerns of his students, and a lively and consistent presence not only in the classroom but also in many extracurricular settings.  Drawing from the labor-management disputes to which he devoted so much of his professional energy, he was always on the alert for the possibility that the interests and concerns of his students and co-workers were not being adequately respected and protected.   As one of his former students observed in 2003:  “He’s always been this champion of the underdog, taking on issues that have no impact on his life at all—whether they are for students in the law school or for inadequate parking for people with handicapped privileges.”
