Examsoft Examplify was developed by Examsoft and is part of an end-to-end assessment management platform. Examsoft Examplify is an application that works similar to a word processor but with specialized security and backup (saves your exam data every 30-60 seconds to your local storage) features. If for any reason, your computer freezes up and need to be restarted, Examsoft Examplify will relaunch and resume from the last point before the computer malfunctioned. When exiting your exam, Examsoft Examplify will do a final save onto your local hard drive before encrypting the exam answer file and then uploads your exam answer file to Examsoft’s exam online processing system. After you have successfully uploaded your exam answer file, you will receive a notification from Examsoft.

For In-class exams, Examsoft Examplify can be used in these three modes:
- “Secure” mode, Examsoft Examplify will fully take over your entire OS desktop and prevent you from accessing the Internet along with any applications on your desktop. You are essentially locked into exam taking application until you have successfully submitted your exam.
- “Semi-Secure” mode is the same as un-secure mode where you’re able to access your notes from your computer hard drive and use word processor. However, Internet access will be blocked. Upon exiting your exam, Examsoft Examplify will re-enable Internet services to allow you to upload your exam answer file.
- “Unsecured” or open mode is a completely open exam template. You will be allowed to minimize or maximize the exam taking application; use the Internet, open up notes, etc.
For remote exams, Examsoft Examplify can be used in these two modes:
- Synchronous “Secure/Scheduled” or closed mode, Examsoft Examplify will fully take over your entire OS desktop and prevent you from accessing the Internet along with any applications on your desktop. You are essentially locked into exam taking application until you have successfully submitted your exam. You will be notified of a start time and date to download your exam template and then have a set time to complete the exam (usually 3 hours) and then you must submit the exam the same day. This exam format is modeled after an in-class secure exam.
- Asynchronous “Open/Non-scheduled” or open mode is a completely open exam template. You will be allowed to minimize or maximize the exam taking application; use the Internet, open up notes, etc. You will receive notification of a start date & time and then have a time limit and a due date, usually 24 to 168 hours from time you download the exam template. Once you have started your exam, you have to finish and submit (upload) the exam answer file so plan accordingly and read the exam instructions carefully.
Getting ready for Law School Exams
- Visit the Office of Assessments Exam Resource page.
- Before every exam semester (Fall, Spring, Summer), make sure to check your Examsoft Portal to make sure you can log in to verify your registration.
- Always read the Official Announcements regarding Law School Exams. These notifications will include important instructions to download your midterm and/or final exam templates.
- Do not wait until the last moment to download your exam template files.
- Before exams, KNOW YOUR ANONYMOUS GRADING ID!
- For in-class exams, bring your access ID card or a valid form of identification so that proctors can verify who you are. For remote exams that will use Exam ID and Monitor, you will be required to process your photo via a special mock exam to process your photo identification..
- For some Charney Hall classrooms, there are limited power outlets so MAKE SURE YOUR LAPTOP BATTERY IS AT FULL CHARGE!
- If you’re taking an exam using your laptop computer, make sure that your computer is in good working order. Per exam guidelines, you will not get extra time for computer problems.
- One or two weeks before exams, TAKE THE MOCK PRACTICE EXAM to see if any issues show up on your computer. If you find any issues, contact Examsoft or create a ticket on Law Technology’s support site.
- Make sure to disable or uninstall any apps that might cause Examsoft Examplify to fail before, during, or after your exams. See this Exam Best Practices FAQ.
- During in-class exams, if you experience any computer issues, raise your hand for help. Per exam guidelines, students with computer issues will need to hand write your exam if the issue cannot be resolved in a timely manner. During remote exams, you will need to contact Law Technology during normal exam support hours. Outside of these exam support hours, Examsoft also provides 24/7 support.
- For remote exams that have the EXAM ID and Monitor feature enabled, then make sure you have a webcam and microphone (no headphones).
- For remote exams and as a safety net, write down or print the exam passwords and resume codes on a sheet of paper.
- REMEMBER TO BRING YOUR OWN POWER ADAPTER TO THE EXAM FOR IN-CLASS EXAMS.
