John Greanias served as a trial court judge in the State of Illinois, including 15 years as Presiding Judge for his county.  His docket encompassed complex civil litigation and criminal felony trials.

After graduating from law school, John Greanias served in the U.S. Navy Judge Advocate General’s Corps.  During his military service he was assigned to the faculty of the Naval Justice School to teach criminal law and procedure, and he served as a special court-martial military judge.  Upon completing military service, he engaged in the private practice of law.  He represented individual, business and government clients.  The Illinois Supreme Court appointed him to the judiciary in 1987.

John Greanias has a long-standing commitment to legal education.  The Illinois Supreme Court appointed him to serve on the Illinois Judicial Education Committee (1998-2008).  Throughout his judicial career, he regularly served on the faculty of seminars and programs for the training of new judges and the continuing education of sitting judges.
