Advocates who want more protections against wrongful convictions are supporting legislation in New York making it harder to put innocent people behind bars.

New York advocates are seeking to reform eyewitness identification procedures and require videotaping of all interrogations. These reforms will not only increase the accuracy and reliability of eyewitness identifications, but also maintain the integrity of the criminal justice system.

With approximately 2,000 wrongful convictions documented across the nation, New York activists hope to build on the progress made by Texas and other states across the nation, who have implemented double-blind and other identification best practices.
