Finding Voice and Meaning in the Process of Resolving Mass Disaster Claims
As The New York Times reported, Washington lawyer Kenneth Feinberg’s firm has a near monopoly on “the curious business of devising ways to compensate disaster victims.” Mr. Feinberg has served as Special Master to distribute funds for victims of mass disasters, including
- September 11th Victim Compensation Fund
- BP Deep Horizon Oil Spill
- Roman Catholic Dioceses funds to compensate victims of clergy sexual abuse
- Penn State sexual abuse scandal
- Funds set up for victims of Virginia Tech and Las Vegas mass shootings
He also assisted the Obama Administration in setting compensation for the 25 highestpaid executives at the seven firms that received TARP bail-out funds. Before founding the Washington office of Kaye Scholer, and then his own firm, Mr. Feinberg served as chief of staff to Senator Edward M. Kennedy.
