Naruto v. Slater with Angela Dunning

Angela Dunning is a litigation partner in Cooley’s Palo Alto office. Her practice spans a wide array of matters in federal and state court, including complex commercial disputes; trademark, copyright, trade secrets and unfair competition cases; and representation of companies and their officers and directors in securities litigation, deal cases, and white collar criminal matters. She has tried numerous cases to a jury verdict and has substantial experience in the federal appellate courts, including multiple arguments before the Ninth Circuit.

Angela represented Blurb, Inc. in the widely publicized “monkey selfie” case, Naruto v. Slater et al., in which P.E.T.A. asserted claims for copyright infringement on behalf of a crested macaque monkey, Naruto (Slater is the photographer). Angela will discuss the Naruto case and share her insights on important issues of standing and the scope of copyright protection.
