Intensive training for experienced lawyers to better serve the in-house legal needs of high tech companies in today’s fast-paced global environment.
The In-House Counsel Institute offers four full days, over the course of two weekends, of in-depth training with opportunities for interactive hands-on practice. The In-House Counsel Institute, Directed by Tom Lavelle, features a faculty of legal thought leaders from several prominent tech companies and law firms to teach the course.
Tom Lavelle served as Senior Vice President and General Counsel at Rambus Inc., VP and General Counsel at Xilinx, Inc., and VP and General Counsel at Next Computer, Inc. for Steve Jobs. He also spent sixteen years in senior legal positions at Intel Corporation. A 1976 graduate of Santa Clara University School of Law, Tom is a member of the law school’s Board of Visitors and the High Tech Law Advisory Board.

The course is aimed at attorneys transitioning from law firms or public agencies to in-house positions, and to those attorneys wishing to enhance the quality of their service to in-house counsel.
The In-House Counsel Institute at Santa Clara Law is geared to be especially helpful to:

MCLE Credit
Up to 20 hours of CLE credit is available, including 1.0 hour of Legal Ethics. Santa Clara Law is a California State Bar approved provider.
Fees
Valued at more than $2,500, the In-House Counsel Institute program for 2016 is a pilot program offered to qualified candidates free of charge, including tuition, course materials and meals.
