KGACLC Immigration Interviewing and Advising

Course Description:
Students counsel clients in the general advice immigration clinic on all aspects of immigration law including political asylum, T-visas, U-visas, family petitions, VAWA, and deportation. In the VAWA (Violence Against Women Act) advice clinics, students advise immigrant victims of domestic violence. Students may not take more than one interviewing and advising class without the prior approval of the instructor. Graded Credit/No Credit.

Experiential Course
Credit/No Credit. Students must attend a mandatory training class on Saturday, August 20 from 8:30 to 5:00 p.m. Thereafter, students must spend 25 hours advising at the Immigration Clinic, which meets between 12:30 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. on the following Wednesday dates: August 24; Sept. 7,21; Oct. 5,19 and Nov. 2,16 If you take more than one advice clinic, the all-day training will only count towards one of the clinic’s hours. You will need to complete an additional 25 hours of clinic time for the other clinic.
