Today, Santa Clara Law announced an exciting gift from three longtime Santa Clara University supporters, to help us continue building our world-class program in privacy law, which is among the top five percent of the nation and classified in the “Tier One” category by the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP).
As the first law school in the U.S. to offer a certificate specialization in privacy law, Santa Clara Law continues to operate at the forefront of this legal field. Our privacy law certificate recipients graduate to advise Fortune 500 companies and startups alike in the area of privacy.
With this generous gift from three industry leaders and their spouses—valued current and former SCU trustees Larry Sonsini; Paul Gentzkow and his wife Barbara Gentzkow; and Kapil Nanda and his wife Margaret Nanda—we have additional possibilities for our privacy law program such as new online offerings or non-JD degrees. The direction we take will be decided by a new managing director, a position for which we are currently recruiting. This leader will have a tremendous opportunity to help shape the direction of our privacy curriculum and programming.
This will be an exciting renewal of our efforts in privacy. Our donors are hoping this gift will shine a spotlight on the importance of privacy and our leading role providing research and dialogue in this field. With additional support from those who share our vision and values, Santa Clara Law could continue to expand our privacy law program and impact this field on a global scale—including possible new initiatives such as additional student support; events; publications; or research.
