Prof. Francisco Rivera Juaristi recently discussed his work in support of a new global treaty on gender-based violence at an event at the University of Minnesota School of Law. Prof. Rivera is a member of the steering committee of Everywoman Everywhere, a diverse global coalition that advocates for a new treaty to address the worldwide problem of violence against women and girls.
Violence against women and girls is one of the greatest violations of human rights in the world. According to the World Health Organization, 35 percent of women worldwide have experienced physical violence. Everywoman Everywhere has launched an online campaign that seeks to build grassroots support for a new global treaty that specifically addresses the issue of violence against women and girls. Prof. Rivera also published a blog post in which he articulates why a new global treaty on gender-based violence is needed.
Prof. Rivera’s work on this issue has greatly benefitted from the student-led reports and recommendations published by Santa Clara Law’s International Human Rights Clinic.
