The National Association of Patent Practitioners (NAPP) is pleased to announce that it will be holding its 2005 Short Course and Annual Meeting at the Stanford Court Hotel in San Francisco, California on July 16-19, 2005. This meeting is co-sponsored by Santa Clara University School of Law Intellectual Property Association. The short course and meeting is open to the general public. A block of rooms has been reserved at the Stanford Court Hotel at the rate of $169.00/night single/double occupancy.

The short course, “Nuts & Bolts of Patent Prosecution Practice”, will be held on Saturday, July 16 from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Registration with continental breakfast begins at 7:30 AM. This course is geared for patent agents and attorneys who have 0-2 years of experience in the field of patent prosecution practice. Lectures and handouts will focus on topics such as inventor and examiner interviews, patent searching, claim drafting, and PCT practice.

The annual meeting “Patent Practice Update 2005” will begin with a membership meeting on Sunday, July 17 from 4:00 – 5:00PM. Members will elect new officers. A reception will follow the membership meeting. The continuing education portion of the meeting will begin on Monday, July 18 with registration and continental breakfast at 7:30AM followed by meeting presentations beginning at 9:00AM and running until 5:00PM. A reception will follow the meeting. A luncheon will be held on Monday, July 18. John Doll, from the US Patent and Trademark Office, has been invited as the guest speaker. The meeting continues on Tuesday, July 19 with continental breakfast at 7:30AM followed by presentations beginning at 9:00AM. The meeting adjourns at 4:45PM.

Presentations will focus on patent prosecution practice. Joni Chang from the US Patent and Trademark Office will give an hour and forty-five minute presentation on recent changes to the USPTO Rules of Practice. John Rogitz will present on Federal Circuit cases that impact patent prosecution practice. Patent attorneys from Germany, Ireland, Canada, and Taiwan will give individual presentations on obtaining foreign protection abroad.
