On Thursday August 25th, from 12:00 noon until 1:00 p.m., a panel of School of Law faculty will discuss the implications of the nomination of Judge John Roberts to become the next Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States. What should be explored at the confirmation hearings? What does Roberts’s record suggest about how he would act as a justice? How would his addition affect the Court’s dynamic? How might it affect such issues as abortion, church-state separation, or executive power? The panel will explore these and other issues.
The panel is made up of:

- Brad Joondeph, Associate Professor (and former clerk to Justice Sandra Day O’Connor)
- Margaret Russell, Constitutional Law Professor
- Ed Steinman, Constitutional Law Professor

Mediating End of Life Disputes in a “Post-Schiavo” World
This semester’s social justice workshop Health Law & Policy features speakers open to the public. On August 25th Professor Ellen Waldman of the Thomas Jefferson School of Law and author of "Preventing the next Terri Schiavo case | The San Diego Union-Tribune", will speak on mediation in the context of resolving end-of-life disputes.
