On January 17, David Akov, the Consul General of Israel for the Pacific Northwest Region, spoke at the School of Law on “Israel and Palestinians: Political Changes and Prospects for the Future.”

Consul General Akov highlighted current events in Israel following Prime Minister Ariel Sharon’s recent debilitating stroke.  He discussed the impact, basis, and implications of the recent withdrawal from Gaza and Northern Samaria, as well as the effect of the Israeli Security Fence, part of which is currently under construction, on terrorist activities. Consul General Akov then fielded questions from the audience about Israel’s response to the build-up of nuclear weapons by Iran, Israel’s upcoming March 28 general elections, and the status of personal property rights for Jews displaced by the withdrawal.

The event was co-sponsored by the Jewish Law Students Association (JLSA), Hillel of Silicon Valley, and the Center for Global Law & Policy.
