Elvia Arriola will be speaking at Santa Clara University School of Law on Thursday, February 9th from 4:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. in the Weigand Room in the Arts & Sciences Building at Santa Clara University.  This lecture is co-sponsored with the Center for Global Law and Policy.  A wine and cheese reception will immediately follow the lecture.  The reception is co-hosted with the PI & SJ Coalition, LaRaza and BGLAd.

 

Elvia Arriola is a Professor of Law at Northern Illinois University.  Professor Arriola received her J.D. from UC Berkeley and her M.A. in American History from New York University.  She was formerly a staff attorney with the National Headquarters of the American Civil Liberties Union and an Assistant Attorney General in the New York State Department of Law.  She began her law teaching career in 1991 at the University of Texas at Austin.  She teaches Constitutional Law, Civil Rights History and Litigation, Gender and the Law, and a seminar on Women, law and Globalization.  Professor Arriola has published in the areas of gender, sexuality and the law, and on the conditions for working women in the global economy.  The focus of her recent work and talk will be on women, sexualized violence and globalization at the Mexican border.
