Eric Goldman to Direct High Technology Law Institute at Santa Clara University School of Law

SANTA CLARA, CALIFORNIA – April 3, 2006 – Santa Clara University School of Law has appointed Eric Goldman as the Director of its High Technology Law Institute and a member of the faculty.  Goldman’s appointment commences August 16, 2006.

Goldman has been a Cyberlaw and intellectual property law expert for over a decade.  He writes extensively on the legal and social implications of new communication technologies; recent articles have analyzed adware/spyware, search engines and spam. 

According to Santa Clara’s dean, Donald J. Polden, "We are very fortunate to have Eric join our faculty and agree to serve as Director of the Institute, handling academic leadership and program development.   He will bring his considerable experience, energy and expertise to the law school’s intellectual property and technology law programs and curriculum, and will work with a dedicated group of faculty and professional staff to build the High Technology Law Institute." 

Currently, Goldman is an Assistant Professor at Marquette University Law School in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.  Previously, Goldman practiced Internet and technology law in the Silicon Valley for eight years, first as an attorney at Cooley Godward LLP in Palo Alto, CA, and then as General Counsel of Epinions.com, an Internet start-up company.  Goldman also taught cyberspace law at Santa Clara University School of Law as an adjunct instructor from 1997 to 2002.
