Santa Clara University‘s International Criminal Court moot team (comprised of Jacqueline Binger, Sharron Fang and Jessica Tillson) took first place at this year’s International Criminal Court Moot Competition, held at Pace Law School earlier this month.  Santa Clara defeated teams from New York University and Louisiana State University in the finals. The competition included teams from the United States, Europe, Asia, and Africa. The final round judges for the competition included Benjamin Ferencz, the U.S. Prosecutor at the post-World War II Nuremberg war crimes trials, and Peggy Kuo, Legal Officer for the United Nations International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia.

In addition to capturing first place in the competition, Ms. Tillson won the award for Best Defense Brief and Ms. Binger was named Third Best Oralist.  Students in the competition served as counsel for several parties in a hypothetical case before the International Criminal Court involving alleged war crimes and other criminal acts by peacekeepers in the nation of "Razachstan."
