John Henry Merryman, Professor Emeritus, Stanford University Law School, will participate in the Santa Clara University Law School’s Summer Abroad program in Istanbul, Turkey by presenting the program’s keynote lecture.
One of the world’s leading scholars of Civil Law, Art Law and the protection of cultural property, Professor Merryman was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2004 annual meeting of the American Society for Comparative Law for having “transformed American comparative law.” In 1970, the Italian Government awarded John Merryman its Order of Merit of the Italian Republic (Cavaliere ufficiale). He has received three doctorate degrees honorus causae: Aix-en-Provence, 1982; Trieste, 1989; and Rome (Tor Vergata), 1999, and has been presented with two Festschriften, one in 1990 and the other in 2003.
