Santa Clara Law Professor Pratheepan (Deep) Gulasekarem spoke on local (San Francisco) NPR affiliate 91.7 FM KALW on Monday, September 29th. To listen to the podcast go to: http://a4.g.akamai.net/7/4/27043/v0001/kalw.download.akamai.com/27043/CityVisions/080929cv.mp3
The show was about the proposed San Francisco Municipal ID program, which was motivated, in part, by the desire to provide undocumented persons with identification. The program was set to go into operation next month, but has been put on hold by Mayor Newsom due to (1) negative publicity for San Francisco’s sanctuary policies in general, in light of the revelations this summer that the city was sheltering undocumented juveniles with felony convictions, and (2) a suit filed challenging the ID program by an advocacy organization (Immigration Reform Legal Institute (IRLI)) dedicated to increased border enforcement and reduction of undocumented persons in the U.S.
The show featured the attorney for IRLI and Professor Gulasekaram.
