The Santa Clara Law Review recently announced its selection for the Executive Board for Volume 50. The new Executive Board members include:
Brandon Douglass, Editor-in-Chief, joins Law Review after graduating from Santa Clara University with a B.A. in History, and working for two years in residential construction and opposition research. During the summer of his first year, Brandon worked as an intern with the Santa Clara County Public Defender, and this year, he worked as a research assistant for Professor Bradley Joondeph. Recently, Brandon competed in the Pace International Criminal Court Competition in New York, where his team came in first place. The team then traveled to The Hague, where they placed fourth overall in the ICC Trial Competition. This summer, Brandon will work as a judicial extern in the Office of the Staff Attorneys for the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.
Allison Ara, Managing Editor, joins the Santa Clara Law Review after graduating from the University of California at Berkeley with a B.A. in Anthropology and working in the medical device industry at Paracor Medical, Inc. During law school, Allie volunteered at the Katharine & George Alexander Community Law Center, worked as a research assistant for Professor Ellen Kreitzberg, and interned at the San Jose Superior Court for the Honorable Socrates Peter Manoukian. During the Spring 2009 semester, Allie and Sabrina Chu, a Research Editor for the Law Review, were quarterfinalists in Santa Clara University’s Internal Honors Moot Court competition and won the Harold R. McKinnon Prize for Best Brief. This summer, Allie will work at the California Attorney General’s Office in San Francisco in the Correctional Law Section.
Hilary Mattis, Senior Comments Editor, spent last summer working at the First Amendment Project in Oakland and the Northern California Innocence Project. This summer, Hilary will work in Menlo Park as a Summer Associate for Latham & Watkins. Prior to law school, Hilary worked as the Director of Operations at Bradshaw & Associates, a civil litigation firm in San Francisco. She holds a B.A. in Sociology, summa cum laude, from the University of San Francisco.
Kara Wild, Senior Technical Editor, joined the Executive Board after having worked for more than six years in the entertainment industry. After graduating from University of California at Berkeley with honors, Kara moved to Los Angeles, where she worked for Warner Brothers in the art department, assisting several well-known television shows, and wrote a drama pilot that won first place in competition. Kara also worked for several years as a technical editor, acquiring the skills essential to her current position. Finally, she was heavily involved with local Southern California politics and community affairs, became an executive board member of the San Fernando Valley Young Democrats and a delegate for her district at the 2007 California Democratic Convention. After her 1L year, she worked at Gordon & Rees, LLP, assisting the Insurance Group, and this summer she will continue to learn more about employment law at the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission in San Francisco.
Courtney Erin Smith, Senior Articles Editor, joins the Executive Board after working as a litigation paralegal in Palo Alto, California. She graduated from Stanford University with a B.A. in Political Science and Interdisciplinary Honors in Education. During law school, Courtney has worked with Fresh Lifelines for Youth, New Orleans Legal Assistance, and the Northern California Innocence Project. She spent last summer in Sydney, Australia, taking courses in Intellectual Property law and interning with a non-governmental organization. This coming summer, Courtney will work as a Summer Associate in the Palo Alto office of Bingham McCutchen LLP.
