I am sad to report that Paula Ettelbrick, long time legal crusader for LGBT rights, died early Friday morning. The email from Marianne and Suzanne was the first one I read Friday morning. I spent much of my day trying to bring back to life the many memories I have of time spent with Paula, arguing about marriage rights, working creatively to define family, trying to explain how tax law figured into all off it. I got to know Paula during my 8 year term on the Lambda board in the late 1980s and early 1990s. She was one of the feistiest legal advocates I know and I count myself blessed to have experienced her friendship in the midst of that feistiness. The New York Times reports her death here.
