Reversal rates are not compiled on an annual basis, but in 2001, a compilation was made based upon all published opinions in civil cases decided by the George Court during the first five years, from April 1, 1996 through March 31, 2001. A total of 231 cases were analyzed. In 55% of them, the Court of Appeal was reversed. The court was more likely to reverse the Court of Appeal when that court reversed the trial court (56.8%) than it was when the trial court was affirmed (53.7%). Combining the cases in which the Court of Appeal affirmed the trial court and was then reversed by the Supreme Court, with the cases in which the Court of Appeal reversed the trial court and was then affirmed by the Supreme Court, the total Supreme Court reversal rate of trial court judgments was 48.5%.
