Prior to joining Santa Clara, Britton Schwartz was Staff Attorney as part of the Shriver Housing Project at Inner City Law Center. Britton has worked as an advocate for rural and indigenous communities in Arizona, California and Latin America, most recently on behalf of indigenous Peruvians as Peru Advocate for Amazon Watch. This work has reinforced her commitment to achieving human rights for the world’s most vulnerable.

Britton is a graduate of Harvard Law School and the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, where she studied civil and human rights, economic development, and environmental justice. She worked as a Law Fellow with the Community Water Center, an environmental justice nonprofit based in the Central Valley from 2008-2010, and served as a judicial clerk on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit for the 2007-2008 term for Judge Richard Paez.

Britton started a one-year fellowship with Community Water Center through the Berkeley Law Foundation as a legal consultant in late September 2008. A native of the arid Southwest, Britton has worked as an advocate for rural communities in Arizona and Latin America. This work has reinforced her understanding that preserving access to clean water is a basic human right and a fundamental prerequisite to community development.
